お父さんとお母さんは歩くのが好きだけど、ぼくはそれほど好きじゃない。雨の日、雨上がり、夜の暗い道、暑い日、暑い車の中などはきらいだ。でも、歩かないと体に悪いといって、お父さんたちはぼくを外に引き出す。でもぼくが嫌がると、無理に引っ張らないからうれしい。あるいは、車が少し冷えるまで待って「もう暑くないから乗ろう」という。やっとぼくが乗ると、例の川土手に進行！お父さんは一人で1.5㌔走り（プラス歩きが1.5㌔）、お母さんは2.3㌔歩く。ぼくは川土手を3分歩くだけであとは車に座って2人が戻るのを待つ。なぜ？それは、川に来る前、町内を30分歩くからだ。
（1）雨上がり：日本語では名詞扱いだが、英語では無理。たとえば、air/roads after the rain（2）嫌がる：be reluctant to ～; be not inclined to ～; hesitate to ～（3）進行！：Here we go！; be off to ～
Dad and mom like walking, but I don’t like it as much as they do. I don’t like rainy days, roads immediately after the rain, dark roads at night, hot days, and hot cars. However, dad and mom say walking is good for my health and drag me out of the house. But they don’t force me out when I’m not inclined, which I like so much. They will also wait until their car becomes a little cooler and say ”Rock, get in the car. It isn’t so hot now.” When I’m in the car finally, we’re off to the riverbank！ Recently, dad runs 1.5km (plus walks 1.5km) by himself and mom walks 2.3km. I walk only 3 minutes along the riverbank and then wait for them to come back to the car. Why？ Because I have already walked 30 minutes around the neighborhood before coming to the river.
お父さん：ロックを見てるとぼくの子供時代を思い出す。子供のころは、歩くのがきらいだったからね。
お母さん：でも今は大好きでしょ。変われば変わるものよね。
お父さん：うん。自然の中を歩くのが大好きだ。木のにおい、土のにおい、登山なんかは最高だね。子供時代には知らなかったんだ。
お母さん：ロックも後1年たてば、変わるかもね。犬の1年は人間の7年というでしょう。3歳になれば、あなたが21歳のときでしょう。
ロック：ぼくは家の中でよく歩いてるよ。このごろは外だってよく歩くし、少しずつ変わっているでしょう？
（4）変われば変わる：What/It’s a great change！（5）最高：be incomparable; have no comparison; have nothing to compare
Dad: Rock reminds me of my childhood, when I didn’t like walking.
Mom: But you like walking now. What a great change！
Dad: Yes, walking in the nature is wonderful. I really like the smells of the trees and soil. Walking in the mountain has no comparison. I didn’t know it’s so wonderful during my childhood.
Mom: Rock may also change one year later. They say one dog year is seven human years. When Rock is three, he will be what you were like when you were 21.
Rock: You both shouldn’t forget that I walk around the house so much. Besides, I’m walking outdoors much more. Don’t you see I have been steadily changing？
